1985 PB270D Heated Windshield Relay

Looking for some info. New club purchased 1985 PB270D and the heated windshield doesn't work. We traced it back to a bad relay / timer. Pisten Bully wants 200.00+ for a new one, we had heard these could be crossed over to a generic relay available through Napa. Anyone heard of this or have any info? The Pisten Bully part number is: 7.735.143.000

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

I have gotten them from NAPA for GM applications and matched them to John Deere tractor parts. If you remove it there should be generic numbers on the relay. Google that number. There are several different pin/post configurations where it plugs in. The last one I got was for a GM sliding sunroof and fit the JD fine.

Interesting Muleman,

The generic numbers on the housing are 896497. I googled every which way from Sunday and couldn't come up with anything. Not doubting you but something has me thinking about your response, The machine is all 24vdc most automotive stuff is all 12vdc

Thanks
Mike

Is it a plug in style or a cannister with individual terminals? 24 volt leans more toward trucks and heavy equipment than automotive. Napa or an electrical wholesaler may still have them. DDS is a member here and may be able to steer you better.

give me a picture i kind of need to see what it looks like there are several different relays for 24 vold aplications some are 24 volt coils and 12 volt contacts others are 24 voldt all around alse some have a thermal timer in them if you have a defroster duct it would be my suggestion that you just use the defroster as when those electronic windshield heaters malfunction they crack a thousand dollar piece of glass another place to look is at unimogs they also have a heated windshield and are 24 volts if it has a thermal timer 200 bucks is cheap compaired to what that piece of glass is going to cost you.

Thanks for the reply DDS, Unfortunately the relay is 350 miles from me at the moment. I can tell you it is a 6 pin layout, 24v all around with a thermal timer built in. Problem we are having is the defroster ducts do not keep up when out in heavy snow.
I am hoping to have someone bring it back with them this weekend. I agree, 200 is not earth shattering but we are a new club with absolutely no outside funding, so money is pretty tight.

i know what you mean i'm a private operator in bush alaska with no stores that stock vw stuff so i find my self looking for a way to apply a presidential patch from time to time to get a ob done just take a look at what the glass cost's though and you will like ly want to use towls til you get a new relay also is the engine coming up to temp if not look into a new thermostat that will improve heat and keep the glass clean
