1979 DMC 1450 track adjustment

Traction

New member
I just acquired a super imp, it's pretty rough. I lined the fuel tank, new fuel lines, pump, carb kit, and battery. She is up and running. The tires are foam filled, but in terrible shape. I had her on the snow today, and think the tracks may be a little loose. They didn't slip, but have a lot of deflection. How tight should these be ran, and how do I adjust them. I see some have a grease cylinder, some have a threaded rod. But this has neither (that I can find). The front idler is on a sliding square shaft (inner), with a large bolt through the outer shaft. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

Look for a grease fitting between the front and second idler in the square tube frame. That is where it was located on the two Thiokols I owned. There should be no slack showing on the rubber belting as it passes over the top of the boogies. If they are too loose the tracks will tend to jump the sprockets when going down hill and turning at the same time.
