At least a few of the above snowcats belong to members here at the forums!

Most of the snowcats above have threads about them, in one form or another. The Russian propeller and jet driven snowcats are interesting. Probably date back to the very very early "aerosan" concept the Russian Military used for propelling sleds across frozen lakes and reasonably smooth fields. They were typically 2+ seaters with a gun mount and a push prop on the rear. The earliest version of the Kristi snowcat actually used a similar configuration of push propeller.

Yep Bob, and the link actually refers to them as strange snow vehicles:yum:..
Clicking the pic links takes you to some pretty interesting stuff!

screw_drive.jpg The Russian 'Zil#XXXXXX' is not unique, we had a similar vehicle, but larger, At Coldfoot Alaska, one of 2 built by BP during the Pipeline construction, and Tucker, of Tucker Sno-cat fame's first attempts at a snow cat were similar. Bombardier's first snow cat was similar to the Top photo, prop driven by a "T-Model" engine.

I have a Jeremy Clarkson DVD (out on loan at the moment so can't find the name of it , it's 3 show's on the one DVD) which has another version of a model T Ford snowmobile , claimed to be the first patented version . It had a metal and chain track almost full width underneath and 1/2 the length and ski's on the front . I can't find any photo's of it on google but will keep looking , it was restored in the 80's by the look of the poodle perm on Clarkson ....

Another worth mentioning for an obscure adaptation is the Monster Garage built mini snow mobile (they claimed it is the first ever mini snow mobile , amateurs :yum:) , it had two polaris two stroke engines in the cabin and two tracks from polaris snowmobiles ... It's a pretty pointless idea with the two exhausts being inside the cabin too ...

Managed to get the dvd back and got some dodgy screen shots of what is claimed to be the worlds first patented snow mobile ,

As it was when first built ,

When restored in the 1990's ,
