Reps and drivers were very knowledgeable. The only cat to get stuck at the shootout was the BV-206 a couple times that I know of.. I was able to drive the Tucker Terra for about 10min very impressed with its car like drive, power, and DEEP powder capabilities. The Camoplast was equally impressive I as able to drive this unit for an extended time -Driver wanted to eat his lunch- so I was able to drive this cat for 30min. Climbing ability was AWESOME the cat that I drove had the 35in tracks so it was a legal cat to trailer. The hills that the Tucker would have to use the blade to climb up the Camo climbed right up.. The Camo was a little more of a challenge to operate but given a small amount of time you were running it like a pro.

You lucky Dog !!! I hope Vance and Eric got the same chances to drive !!! I wish I could have stayed but the wife was getting cold, BUT looking back and what happened at home with our uncle , it was best we came back to the house early . There is always next year and I did get a nice invite from Sherri Seely to come tour their business in Colorado anytime . Really nice people .

Look who else showed up at the shootout???? I did not get any seat time because it had such a line waiting to test drive the newest and the best cat their!!!!! It was clocked at 76mph..... :yum:

Art is a good people. I have had two classes with him and he really knows his stuff. The BV 206 is not a deep powder machine at all but does pretty good overall. I sold mine since it doesnt like deep snow with inclines at all. BUT its not bad for everything else. I believe and may be wrong but I think it has a 1.4 psi? I need to check. Anyway glad to see you guys made it. MAN what a HUGE amount of snow fall in a week. Very cool vids too. Keep posting. :thumb:

I did...I'll post up tomorrow:wave:

Okay,

sorry for the delay in posting pix but I had to go back east for work for a couple days. I did see new snow in Chicago and wonder why Bob is not posting more snow pix. Course - there isn't near the snow that we have in California!!

The Shootout was a great event. I cannot thank Safety One for the opportunity. Yes, there were a couple delay and logistic issues but most of that was due to the extreme storms that gave us the great snow conditions.

Heres the pix:

Good to meet a couple more peeps on this site in person. Hope we can get together more often.

Vance

Because I had foot surgery last Thursday (on both feet), the doctor has me confined to sitting for the 3 to 5 weeks.:smileywac

After we waited for the BV to come back to get us.... well, it took a while cause it got real stuck and the 2 Tucker Terras had to help it get out. Don't have pix of that but might be able to get some from Tucker.

I got lucky and Yan from Camoplast came into the lodge and said he had an extra seat - I quickly volunteered.

In the pix below is the Camo Patrol - amazing machine.

Yan is one of the developers of the Patrol at Camo and drove the machine like an extension of his body.

Pix
1. heading out to the play site
2. My host - Yan from Camo
3. Yan demonstrating the 45deg sidehill capability - you might note that the hill is even steeper that the pic appears - I had the camera tilted trying to hold on.
4. Another sidehill - camera is LEVEL with the CAT!! Wow.

Are some/any/all the people in the pics members here?
Just wondering if a face can be put to a name for members here.

Hi again,

Trying to connect pix to members -

I heard yellowpine was there but never got a chance to meet him on the hill

I don't know how to do this other than to post the pics again - I can't go back and edit pic descriptions...

pic1: Big Al

pic2: Vance (in blue) and Mike (mbsieg)

pic3: Eric L just after driving the Tucker

We also talked with another snocatter (Jim - can't rember handle)from the board that doesn't post much but I don't think I got any pix.

Vance

P.S. It wasn't Art in the red storm gear and mickey boots but he was dressed like that, too. The two guys in red were the safety guys that kept an eye on the cats and their movements.

That doesn't seem like much. But then I wouldn't know didley about these rigs. Typically what do you guys say is good for PSI??

Steve, my Snow Trac, when fully loaded puts down 0.75 psi, or roughly 1/2 that amount of pressure and it is NOT a powder rig. A Snow Master, which has wider and longer tracks than my Snow Trac, but otherwise uses the same chassis/body, puts down 0.45 psi or roughly 1/3 the amount of ground pressure as the BV 206's 1.4 psi.

That is amazing. I can see now why the farmers are out after the Cat tractors with the tracks instead of the wheels.

Steve, a combine will have 10psi of air pressure in its tires, the sidewall will impart another 3 to 5 psi.

A tractor will have roughly 20psi of air pressure, putting down about 25 psi on the ground (less for turf tires, more for R4s) It is not uncommon for a Compact Tractor to have tires inflated to 30~35psi and running R4 tires so it could be putting down close to 45psi. My VW Touareg SUV has a tire pressure of roughly 45psi and softer sidewalls than an R4 tire . . . it will rut a yard for exactly the same reason that a compact tractor with over inflated tires will rut a yard.

I've not checked what the ground pressure is on the new tracked farm tractors, but I know that soil compaction is among the biggest problems that farmers face and they tend to be very concerned about creating paths of compaction through their fields. I suspect that more and more agricultural equipment will convert to tracks of some sort, but I doubt it will find much acceptance in compact tractors. I'd think the real place for tracked tractors will be over 100hp, as well as smaller specialty tracked tractors for vinyard and orchard tractors where hillsides are steep and stability is an issue. Even with tracks, I woud suspect that an agricultural tractor is probably putting down about 1psi or more? But that is just a guess.

Below is a photo of an Ebert Sure Trac conversion of a New Holland used as a grooming tractor. This image was posted on Koz's Grooming Site.

OK.. i'm back with the living...

Wow,What a week last week was.. spent entirely too much time blowing snow leading up to the shootout, then stood in the weather at the event.. no wonder I been sick.

I didn't get much seat time at the shoot-out due to delays at the site, but I managed to get 10 minutes in the Tucker 2000 Terra... Very nice.

Considering how many things went wrong at the site, it's amazing how well Safety One's crew managed to pull it off. The were a lot more people attending than I expected and I was trying to allow actual customers the chance to operate first. This left us at a deadline to meet and we practically pulled one operator out of his seat so I could get a quick drive in.

Thanks to Art Seely and crew for a great time..

I'm glad I got to meet Allen and his wife, Vance (who it turns out I knew from my Jeepin' days), Mike, Jim, and Kif.

I only got a few pics and some crappy video... will post later.

Eric
