Modified Bombi fix up

I picked up a bombi that had a good run in Maine taking care of grooming duties for a snow mobile club.

(I am new to snow cats so my desire blurrs easily with my needs) I felt It fit my needs:

Cheap.
Distressed.
Automatic.
Diesel
was being used when a track failed.
Medium sized

The photo below is when I first picked it up.
I intend to get it sorted out and operating this winter.

uses will be:
Winter access to a summer house (camp) in northern WI.
Lake access on a good sized inland lake for a sturgeon spearing season.
I have permission to Groom a section of snow mobile trail in east central WI.

The good.
Healthy diesel engine. 2.4 L mercedes.
Automatic Trans.
Ram steer mounts.
Dual heaters.
adequate lights.
extra sprocket
solid (unmounted) tires

The attention list.
Tracks, one belt has a splice.
One flat (non repairable)
Two worn 4.50 10
Hand full of guides need some love with a hammer.
engine management needs some refinement. (functions as it is)

As of this writing I have attended to the engine managment. I can now have the idle speed adjusted independantly of the fuel stop.
I have installed the new glow plugs it came with. (verified operation)
took the tracks off and had the belting inspected by a local good year distributor.
Mounted the solid tires.
I am now starting to figure out how to straighten a slightly bent drive axle tube.
and I am considering recleating the tracks.

Oh yes and to be perfectly open and honest. deep down in the back of my twisted little head is a articulated four track Bomb-land type snow cat.
Don't be surprised to see a WTB Bombi *need not run or have a diff* add.

Looks good, Mike. I'm glad to see it back together.

An articulated double-Bombi might be a fun project.

Keep us updated !

Why maine:
Technically I snagged it from New York. The seller helped with the shipping.

Progress:
wooo whooo. Squeezing rubber is really interesting. man do those deform before they get where they are going.

Any how. The alping guides that came with it are mounted.

More Baby steps.

Don, my last one came with a nisson deisel in it. It was kind of shy on the rust protection. It pulled some very heavy loads.I hated to see them go.

Before I found this Mercedes powerd Bomb, I was seriously measuring that SD-33T engine for the Imp. that Scout is safe now.....

Yes I like my IH's

i would love one for my cj-5 but i understand they weigh about as much as a big block might add too much weight to the little cj 5 a little duetz air cooled diesel might be the ticket
