Shovel Race crash

Now that has to hurt .... Any injuries and any photo's of the shovel racer afterwards ? Any photo's of the other competitors sleds ?

Billy carts were always around as we were growing up and there was a very serious effort each year in the town closest to where we lived but doing it on snow looks a whole lot better and safer (bitumen at 80 kph or snow at 80 kph .....) .

Here are some shots of the track and other sleds, I don't have an after shot of mine, but I've got a shot of another guy that hit the catch fence when his brakes failed. Due to lack of cross bracing in his frame he broke both legs.
Due to liability issues, the resort stopped hosting the race a few years ago.

My crash of the black sled, very poor quality video, but you'll get the point.

Looks like a hell of a lot of fun , until you crash of course . Some pretty impressive engineering in there too .

I'm going to be a girl here and say, "O My GOSH!!!"
I would have panicky attacks just sitting in it while still in the barn.
Did you get hurt in that last crash?

I could go pretty good, stopping was a bit of a problem though.

:yum: Sounds like me on my first and only time snow skiing. :yum:

Good pics RR. It does look like a blast, but sounds a bit dangerous ... but hey, that's what makes it fun. :D

The first crash rang my bell a little, the second wasn't as bad. It's actually a Jr. dragster chasis that's up sized a bit, so I had a 5 point harness, full cage and helmet. I built the thing, but testing opportunities are a bit sparse in Texas, the test is when you go down the hill, then you find out how it's balanced and how well the brake (plow) works. Mine caused me to to get out of shape for some reason, never did figure out why.

Kinda funny that the shovel racing we did when I was a kid didn't look anything like that, worst I did was having the handle smack me in the head when I hit a tree stump. Was about nine years old and it was kind of a badge of honor in school walking around with a purple bump on the middle of my forehead ... we weren't too bright then either!

You guys have all the fun in snow.
The most I've ever done that was considered dangerous was slide down the side of a reservior on my stomach at full speed atop an inner tube.
That and being on the back of a snowmobile, which scared the heck out of me.

Why do you think Santa lives up north and drives a sled?:glare: I doubt it is just because of the elves... because Mrs. Clause it there too, right?:ermm:

Wow, you have lived a pretty sheltered life... You need to get out and do some really scary stuff... start by running with scissors, you can work up from there as each level of adrenalin wears off!:w00t:

It is even better if you get to "ride" on a snowmobile when they are moving, just sitting on them doesn't do a thing for me... :brows:

You prolly don't want to ski with me then. It either better be steep and fast or lots o bumps or all of the above. I have not snow skied in over 10 years, but I LOVE it. Nothing like pointing down hill on two sticks and trying for terminal velocity...

That mess looks like fun though. No one accused me of being bright...

Well, me either :bonk:. I'm pretty much a blue run skiier, I didn't learn
till I was 30 and it was a slow process. I love it too, but the wife doesn't, so it's been a while since I went too.

I learned at 19 when I was still young, dumb, and playing college ball. My third day on skis I was skiing blacks in the dark at Keystone. Don't think I could or would do that now over 11 years later. Princess has bad knees and there is no way I would even try and teach her to ski now. :(
